your assessment that US miscalculated Iran war is totally wrong. The idea from start was to make sure Iran blocks Hormuz, destroy some of the oil production facilities followed by Naval blockade by US. This is to keep oil prices high so that US oil companies can be profitable and supplement the loss of production by GCC- this is done to keep dollardominance
