The reason for having a underwater wire is that the electromagnetic waves cannot tavel long not more a 2-3km so they have wired connection and these are fiber optic cables because light is the fastest known communication method that fiber optic cable is built for that communication even if we want truly wireless we can't do it with present technology JFYI
